17 years ago, at the
age of 2, my youngest sister was diagnosed with severe allergies to tree nuts
and peanuts (among other things). Consequently, I have been aware of the plight of the allergic child (and teenager) for many years. In 2008 my 13 month old son had a serious allergic reaction and was subsequently diagnosed with an egg allergy (placing him at increased risk of later developing a peanut allergy too).
After starting my family, I decided against returning to my career as a research scientist in favour of setting up in business myself, allowing me a more flexible and family-friendly lifestyle. I have never liked nuts and had been frustated for years by the high proportion of nuts in any good quality box of chocolates. My personal frustrations combined with a family history of severe allergies made my business choice clear: to source and supply good quality nut-free (and egg-free) chocolates to allergy sufferers and their families. I was determined that the nut-free character would not require a compromise in quality, making our chocolates a serious option for those without allergies too. I believe we have achieved this with Dammenberg chocolates. Dammenberg chocolates really are so good, that even lovers of nuts can appreciate them!
In fact, Dammenberg's chocolates exceeded my orginal hopes, as not only is their entire range nut-free and egg-free, but it is also gluten-free (suitable for Coeliacs), Kosher (for the Jewish community), GMO-free and Vegetarian. Within this range, they also produce chocolates that are also: Milk-free, Lactose-free, Vegan, Soya-Free, No Added Sugar, Organic and Fair Trade, allowing us to cater for a broad range of multiple allergies and dietary requirements.
About Dammenberg chocolates
Dammenberg is a family run business based in Tampere, Finland. In 2003 they became the first chocolate manufacturer in Europe whose factory is totally NUT-FREE and GLUTEN-FREE.
All of their products are nut-free, gluten-free, egg-free, Kosher, GMO-free and suitable for vegetarians. Their dark chocolate (55%) is milk-free, Kosher (P) Pareve and suitable for vegans and their X-Dark (72%) chocolates are lactose-free and Kosher (D) Dairy (may contain traces of milk).
